Stuart Barr selected to stand in Vassall ward by-election
Vassall ward has chosen local campaigner Stuart Barr to fight the by-election on Thursday 20th March 2008. Stuart and his wife have lived and worked in Vassall for 7 years, and their daughter goes to primary school there.
Stuart works as a singing coach and conductor for TV and theatre. For the BBC, he judges on the Young Musician of the Year, Choir of the Year and the Fame Academy Musical Theatre Bursary Scheme. He also teaches singing privately.
Very active in the community, Stuart is Vice-Chair of Governors at Wyvil Primary School. He is also passionate about music in education, and last year co-ordinated Sing For Freedom, the charity concert and educational project that celebrated the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade, involving 130 children from four local schools, and raising £2,200 for the Mayor’s nominated charity, Anti-Slavery International.
He is a keen cyclist, and lobbies for better cycling provision in Lambeth. The son of a policeman, he also cares greatly about the safety of our neighbourhoods.
