Council hits severely disabled with huge charges hike

Labour Lambeth is pressing ahead with huge increases in social care charges for the frail elderly, vulnerable, and severely disabled people of the borough.

These stealth fee hikes began last year when hourly care charges were raised from £7.50 to £12.50 but they have now soared to £17.50 an hour and are likely to hit £21 an hour later this year. Vulnerable residents need these services to help perform daily basic needs.

Gipsy Hill Councillor Suzanne Poole said: “Labour is penalising the poorest and most badly off people in the borough while at the same time they are paying themselves inflated allowances to spend time at Brixton Town Hall.”

Despite receiving a multi-million pound “windfall” for money over-paid to the government for housing benefit Labour hasn’t as yet used a single penny to offset these service fee hikes.

Suzanne commented: “Labour’s policies are so misguided they wouldn’t even debate them when we requested a meeting in the Town Hall. Nationally and locally, Labour is hitting the weakest in society.”
