Lambeth Life ‘should be scrapped to save jobs’

Controversial free sheet Lambeth Life is to stay in print, despite mounting calls for it to be scrapped in the face of widespread cuts.

At a full council meeting on Wednesday, July 28, Conservative group leader Councillor John Whelan argued that in the face of more than 400 council job losses this financial year, the free sheet should be scaled back and the money saved ploughed into saving essential services.

Recent figures show the paper, which costs £566,431 to run a year, relies on £163,146 in taxpayer cash to prop it up, because of a lack of advertising revenue.
