Herne Hill
We will:
- Provide necessary funding for the Carnegie Library to extend opening hours, increase the number of books and be able to fulfil its potential as a vibrant community resource at the heart of Herne Hill.
- Have zero tolerance towards antisocial behaviour around the Herne Hill station – working with the Herne Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team to make the area an attractive town centre for local residents.
- Ensure that every resident in Herne Hill is covered by a Residents’ Association – recognising that Resident Associations are a vital institution for ensuring residents can make their voice heard.
- Create the necessary number of primary school places in Herne Hill required to meet the current need, proactively exploring new sites where primary schools can be located.
- Provide Thorland’s Estate Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) with the funding it requires and is entitled to in order to effectively manage the Estate.
- Implement traffic calming measures in key areas of the ward where residents have expressed road safety concerns.
- Bring back wardens in Brockwell & Ruskin Park to ensure parks are maintained properly and are a safe and clean environment for all.
- Create a vibrant shopping centre in Herne Hill, working with businesses, landlords, Southwark Council and Lambeth to get new businesses into empty premises.
- Put up dog fouling fixed penalty notices on all streets most severely affected by the problem.
- Work with wider South London train user groups to lobby First Capital Connect to reverse current plans to terminate all train services from Loughborough Junction and Herne Hill Stations at Blackfriars.
- Develop Herne Hill as a recognised centre for excellence in the arts across London.
